My Journey

My journey has taken me across countries, careers, and identities. I began my professional life in government, later moved into educational leadership and higher education, and eventually built a career as a professor, researcher, author, and business founder. Along the way, I immigrated to Canada, adapted to new professional and cultural environments.
A few years ago, despite many things going well professionally, I found myself asking questions I had never seriously considered before. Was this what I truly wanted? Was I becoming the person I wanted to be? Was I living my own life or someone else’s version of a successful life?
These are some of the same questions that many people bring to me today.
What I Learned
The more I explored these questions, the more I realized they were all pointing to something bigger: if I wanted to create the life I envisioned, I first needed to become the person who could craft it.
I learned that meaningful change rarely begins with changing our circumstances. It begins with the relationship we have with ourselves. The beliefs we hold, the stories we tell ourselves, and the patterns we develop influence how we respond to challenges, make decisions, and build relationships.

This led me to a simple but powerful realization: if we want to shape our lives, we must first engage in the lifelong process of becoming – our own human development. I call this intentional engagement in our own human development Self-Crafting. Self-Crafting became the foundation of my broader philosophy of Life Crafting – as we shape ourselves, we become better able to shape our work, relationships, contribution, and ultimately our lives.
This philosophy became the foundation of The Human Development Studio.
Why I Created The Human Development Studio
As my thinking evolved, I began to notice a common pattern in the conversations I was having with students, professionals, leaders, and organizations.
Someone came with a career question, but the real challenge involved deeply held beliefs. Someone wanted to redesign their role but lacked the energy to sustain the changes. Someone wanted to improve performance, but what they really needed was a different relationship with themselves.
The more I worked with people, the clearer it became that these challenges were deeply connected. They could not be fully understood or addressed in isolation.
The Human Development Studio was created to bring these ideas together through one integrated approach. Today, that work takes shape through four interconnected areas: Career Management, Self-Crafting, Job Crafting, and Sustaining Capacity & Performance. Together, they help individuals and organizations become more active architects of their work and lives.

Professional Background
I hold a PhD, MBA, and MSc and have spent more than two decades working across
government, higher education, executive education, research, and organizational

Throughout my career, I have taught, mentored, and worked with hundreds of students, professionals, leaders, and executives. I am the author of Career Management in Today’s Workplace: Stories and Cases from Canada and have designed and delivered learning experiences for audiences ranging from students and emerging professionals to senior leaders and executive MBA participants.
While I value research and evidence, I am equally interested in how ideas translate into everyday life and work. This commitment to bridging theory and practice continues to shape my work today.
